Just doing M.E. in a good college will not guarantee anyone a great job though it increases the opportunities in his/her career and to acquire a still better knowledge about their subject. Expecting campus placements in M.E. level will not fetch a great job. Even people with high CGPA in good colleges are coming out without a job after completing M.E.. There are a lot of reasons for it such as lagging in communication skills, lack of exposure, lack of planning and lack of awareness about the trend and updates in their field.
Here are few choices after M.E.
1) Government job or public sector jobs
2) Core companies
3) Software companies
4) Teaching (Assistant Professor Grade)
All of the above needs extreme interest and smart work in each way.
Government jobs and Public Sector jobs:
There are people whose aim is a government job. If they were not able to make it out after B.E. they pursue with M.E. from which they can get a better subject knowledge and also time to prepare for the exams and crack it out. It requires thorough basic subject knowledge in the respective departments. There are many coaching centres providing training to crack the competitive exams. If you are the one with this idea, start to prepare right from the beginning and see to that you can balance both M.E. curriculum and competitive exam preparation.
It is the dream sector of everyone who enters into Engineering studies. However only very few in the lot succeed in achieving it. What would be the reason for it? It is all because of the gap that exists between the industrial needs and the knowledge acquired from the educational institutions. To make it all fine one should be aware of the needs of the recruiters and industry. Exposure is the main factor to make a core company job come true. I would say this category of people are the ones who make use of what all they have learnt in their core sectors. Extreme smart work and intelligence are the keys for these jobs.
To make big money and career growth in a short time Software jobs are apt. However not all companies offer this and not all employees could be successful here. While studying his/her own curriculum one has to learn Programming, Data structures, Learn basics of C, C++, Java, .net etc if one has to shine well in the software job they choose and for the job security even after getting placed in a good company. However these are not essentials to just get placed. Develop Communication skills, language skills, basic programming to face the tests and the interview.
It has become common thinking that one would get an assistant professor job very easily after M.E. It was the scenario three years before. Now this field also has a heavy competition. Few of the reputed colleges started conducting written tests, telephonic interview for screening and personal interview for selection. To increase the opportunities of getting assistant professor job in a good college maintain a high profile in your academics and publish technical papers in International journals and conferences during the M.E course itself.
To be a successful entrepreneur one has to learn about their field and market and the current trends. It needs experience field and earning big money in the experience period is not possible. One has to choose small companies irrespective of the salary with the only aim to learn.. So no small company job can be said as worthless. Act smart to choose a better small company where u can learn a lot if u want to make up your own business .If u want to take time to learn more about subject and field or to make better career plans, choose M.E. which will increase your opportunities in your life and career.
It all depends on the individual’s hardwork in utilising the course duration and resources of the institution in an efficient manner to create a great career in his/her own way. It is wiser to plan before you take a next step in academics and career. The clarity in the idea will make you lay path of your own to reach what you want.
